Our OTs will assess your current abilities then provide tailored advice to optimise your driving experience. We can also assess your capacity and provide advice on utilising alternate transport modes such as mobility scooters and electric wheelchairs.

Our driver training car is equipped with a variety of modifications.
Whether this is your first time using a modified vehicle or you need some adjustments for better control and comfort, you’ll try different features to find what suits you best.

Our occupational therapy team will support you with an initial assessment after a new injury, or if you need to transition from hand controls that are now deemed unsuitable (such as a portable pedal fitted device).

Frequently asked questions
Yes, absolutely. If you’ve never driven a car and you live with a disability, specialised driver training with Drive Smart Driving School, combined with a driver OT assessment from estara’s occupational therapists, can guide you on the path to getting your L’s, P’s and full licence.
If you live with a disability or medical condition that may impact your ability to drive, you will need to complete a Service SA form with support from your health practitioner.
Our support staff and occupational therapists can support you with information about your driver’s licence and set you up with driving modifications to get you back on the road.
Our modified driving instruction vehicle has a passenger-side brake. While you are adjusting to the modified controls of the vehicle and learning how to operate the car, your instructor can brake if needed to prevent a collision.
Your driving instructor is skilled in supporting and guiding you to drive a modified vehicle, with understanding and patience. You’ll gain confidence as you practice driving, knowing your instructor will be there to guide you through the steps to gaining your license.
